Sometimes children’s Bible story books can be so profound. I don’t know why, but the words and illustration on this page resounded deeply with me today! What an example Jesus set for us! Do we beg to leave the bleak place we are in, or do we pray for God to show us how our life might be used?

Spirit of the Living God, be the Gardener of my soul. For so long I have been waiting, silent and still — experiencing a winter of the soul. But now, in the strong name of Jesus Christ, I dare to ask:

Clear away the dead growth of the past,
Break up the hard clods of custom and routine,
Stir in the rich compost of vision and challenge,
Bury deep in my soul the implanted Word,
Cultivate and water and tend my heart,
Until new life buds and opens and flowers.

Amen.

Recently, I discovered the #shereadstruth community, a community of women reading the Bible together & sharing their insights, thoughts & struggles regarding the readings. I joined in as they were finishing up a topical reading plan on prayer.

Four days ago, I started reading Proverbs with the #shereadstruth community. I had already read through Proverbs once this year, but this time, I am enjoying reading in several different versions, as the ladies of #shereadstruth have suggested. I am letting the words penetrate deeper into my soul.

I have been inspired by the vivid & creative picture that The Message paints in Proverbs. The search for wisdom is described as an adventure, a journey, a treasure hunt! Oh how I love adventure! I’m looking forward to continuing this adventure in Proverbs…this quest for wisdom…

Let the journey begin!

Musings from an Artist of the Soul

3:23 and the bed unmade…

A day of reading and praying and wondering what’s to come.

How do the days pass so fast without a scrap of purpose…or is there purpose somewhere cleverly disguised beneath this mundane madness.

I am longing…longing for more than just these menial chores…more than just these ordinary tasks.

What is there for me? Where do I go from here?

I hear my mother and my husband and my friends say in chorus, “Take one step at a time. Just take the next step!”

But I can not contain myself…I am forever leaping forward into the unknown future and wondering…

Not all who wonder are lost…but maybe I am…

…lost amidst too many thoughts and worries and the foggy mist of life

…lost in the world’s demands and the slow unfolding of common events.

At least there is some comfort to be had in the anticipation of community…maybe there I will find some direction

…maybe there I will forget about my aimlessness, if only for a few short hours. And when I come back to this place, to these moments, maybe I will feel a tinge of purpose returning

…maybe I will see with fresh eyes

…and maybe there will be some truth, beauty and goodness added to my random ramblings of righteousness…

But for now, I am here, putting off the necessary...

and wondering…
